And i was there...

This one was a really, really, really good memory... We were mostly 60 in the tiny Espace Ornano (r.i.p.), a rare place in Paris where you can see all the english indie bands of the time (and also a few american ones).

First came Edsel Auctioneer. Renember them ? No ? No problem, nobody does. They were sort of a third rate noisy pop band with a miserable singer who can't manage to sing correctly.

Second band was The Becketts. I was quite fan at that time of their "lust" mini-lp. They seem to be an english answer to the Pixies. They came in France with their grungy-hairy posse... and they put the place in fire ! As all english people in France, they drink bottles of wine, as if it was pint of beers, during all the set, never stop stage-diving and shouting. Very funny... I renember they were quite admirative of the long blonde hair of Philippe, one of my friend from "the guys of the front row" (see my post on first semptember 2010).

As they were always diving from the stage and make some pogo dancing, i manage to keep safe my glasses (i wore glasses at that time) providing it to be broken and finish the set seeing nothing and skaking hands, laughing with the Becketts posse all making a rugby mêlé on stage. The band was good that night and they throw us badges (i wore one of them proudly during a certain time).

How can Teenage Fanclub could be better then ? They made it, mostly with the help of their drummer Brendan O'Hare. Really funny guy ! I don't renember if it's during this gig that the guy came on stage with a baguette. But, i'm quite sure it was at this one that he stopped playing during one tune and came in the front row to shake hands with us and the Becketts possee (and made some smurf moves before rejoining his band and finish the tune beside his drums !).

The Fannies had made "catholic education" and in a few months they would become one of the greatest english band of the time with "bandwagonesque". So, also for that purpose, this gig is espacially mythical for me and, i'm sure, for the few peoples who had the chance to be there.
